Carpenter nanguna sa lectures sa BSU, PG-ENRO
Nakadaupang-palad ni Batangas Governor DoDo Mandanas si Dr. Kent Carpenter, ang Amerikanong marine biologist, na ang mga ginawang pag-aaral at pagsasaliksik ang naging basehan upang madiskubre at mapatunayan na ang Pilipinas ang “center of the center of marine shorefish biodiversity” sa mundo, partikular ang Verde Island Passage.
Nag-courtesy call si Dr. Carpenter kay Gov. Mandanas noong ika-20 ng Nobyembre 2019 sa People’s Mansion, Capitol Compound, Lungsod ng Batangas, bago pangunahan ang isang lecture na isinagawa sa Provincial Government – Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) Conference Room sa Batangas Capitol.
Naging paksa ng lecture ang “Environmental Damage on Coral Reefs in the South China Sea and International Arbitration under the United Nations Convention on the Laws of the Sea.” Dinaluhan ito ng mga stakeholders sa Verde Island Passage at West Philippine Sea, kabilang ang mga kinatawan ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – PENRO Batangas, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 4A, PG-ENRO, Philippine National Police – Maritime, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, ilang mga coastal local government units ng Batangas, at non-government organizations.
Nagbigay din ng lecture ang kasalukuyang propesor ng Biological Sciences sa Old Dominion University sa Norfolk, Virginia sa Estados Unidos sa Batangas State University – Main Campus sa Lungsod ng Batangas.
Nagsasagawa na si Dr. Carpenter ng marine research sa Pilipinas mula noong 1975, at patuloy na nakatutok sa marine conservation biology dito. Nagkaroon din ng mahalagang papel si Carpenter, bilang bahagi ng legal team na naging kinatawan ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas, sa paborableng desisyon ng Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague para sa karapatan ng Pilipinas sa mga pinagtatalunang bahagi ng West Philippine Sea.
