Gov. Vilma Santos Recto recently bestowed upon Padre Garcia, Batangas and said municipality’s Brgy. Cawongan the awards as the 2009 “Child-Friendly Municipality” and “Child-Friendly Barangay,” respectively.

A project of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, through its head, Ms. Jocelyn Montalbo, the citations came with cash rewards for the local government unit (PhP50,000) and barangay (PhP20,000).    

Padre Garcia bagged the award as most child-friendly municipality because of the presence of facilities for the convenience of children such as day-care centers, health centers, and the such other services. - Vince Altar
