Gov. Vi, Son Luis Show Full Support to Noble Cause


Another walk for a cause brought a brighter light in Batangueño youth’s dream of a better future as the Provincial Government of Batangas led a march, along with other government and private institutions after the crack of dawn today, November 26, 2009, that concluded with a program at the Batangas Provincial Sports Complex.

Governor Vilma Santos Recto spearheaded Alay Lakad Foundation, Inc.’s (ALFI) fund drive, which netted a total of PhP 1,095,941 in donations from different sectors, to continue their program of providing educational assistance.  Themed: “Lakad Kabataan, Ituloy ang Kaunlaran”, the 37th Walk for a Cause was highlighted by the presence of the governor’s celebrity son Luis “Lucky” Manzano, who walked with her and emphasized education’s importance in his message.

ALFI president, Lianda Bolilia, described this year’s event as the biggest turn-out in the provincial Alay Lakad history, with more than twelve thousand people trooping to the complex. Participating agencies’ muses and intermission numbers wowed the audience as participated in by University of Batangas, Batangas State University and the ALFI scholars.

Sen. Ralph G. Recto and Gov. Vi contributed PhP100,000 each, while Manzano shelled out Php30,000.  Also present during the successful fundraiser were Vice Governor Marc Leviste, 2nd District Congressman Hermilando Mandanas and PNP Batangas Provincial chief Police Sen./Supt. Jesus Gatchalianin.

The  Department of Education-Batangas bagged three trophies for the most number of delegates, best in uniform and best contributor.  Their muse, Risalyn Torino, also bagged the Mutya ng Alay Lakad 2009.  - Kristina Marie Joy B. Andal
